More than a kitchen – a look back at the magic and legacy of Wandering Cooks

Nodo, Lisboa Caffe, Bella & Tortie, El Planta, Alphabet Cafe, Bee One Third, NYC Bagel Deli, 31 Degrees Chocolates, Pie Town, Mongrel – what do these businesses all have in common? Few organisations, if any, can claim it contributed to the growth of the local food scene in the same way (and on the same scale) as the innovative South Brisbane-born incubator, which announced its closure in late May. The news prompted an outpouring of support from the food community – from the operators that used Wandering Cooks as a stepping stone to wider success, to eaters sharing fond memories of Thursday night food-truck gatherings and Friday night snack showdowns. Noir unveils its new function space – and reveals details its monthly collaborative chefs dinner series

It's not uncommon to see Paddington wine bar Noir heaving with custom throughout the week – especially on Friday and Saturday evenings. To address this issue, the Noir crew has taken over an apartment space behind its Given Terrace location, converting it into a slick secret area for special celebrations. It will also be the home of a new dinner series dedicated to showcasing one-off menus crafted by some of Brisbane’s best chefs – here's what we know so far … more

Party like it’s 1982 – Gelato Messina is re-releasing its Gaytime and Viennetta-inspired hybrid gelato tubs

For many Australians born in the 1980s or 90s (or maybe just this writer in particular), there is little that can beat the nostalgia-inducing flavour sensation that is the Golden Gaytime. That is, unless, the Gaytime is faced with the ultimate contender – the equally (if not more) kitsch Viennetta ice-cream cake. How could one ever decide? Thanks to our friends at Gelato Messina, you don't have to. more
