Brews and chews – Eagleby welcomes new $6-million brewery Perentie Brewing Co.

For a long time, the Eagleby stretch between Brisbane and the Gold Coast didn’t offer much that would inspire one to veer off the Pacific Motorway. That all changed in 2015 when Distillery Road Market arrived – heralding the beginning of a new food and entertainment precinct centred around community and connection. The most recent addition to the precinct has been unveiled and it’s no small feat – the $6-million, one-million-litre capacity lager brewery, Perentie Brewing Co. What makes a perfect neighbourhood watering hole? Great drinks and snacks are a good start. A comfortable setting helps, too, and friendly service is a must. Ticking all the boxes is Vlume, a fetching bar and nosh spot that's giving Ascot locals a place to meet over tipples and tapas. Attention carb lovers – The Twin is now serving breakfast and slabs of its famous focaccia

It takes more than one ingredient to make a great sandwich. That said, there's something about The Twin's house-made focaccia that we just can't get enough of. If you, like us, froth The Twin's lightly crispy, wonderfully chewy and flavourful focaccia, then you'll be jazzed to hear that the West End cafe is now selling it (and gluten-free mountain bread) retail. The Twin's also putting its newfound abundance of fresh focaccia to great use, debuting a tight breakfast menu to go with its roster of sandwiches. more

The Netherworld crew is opening a karaoke joint. That sentence, in and of itself, is likely enough to get a good percentage of Brisbane's bar hoppers hyped. But, like everything the team behind Brisbane's fiercely cherished arcade bar and diner does, the fun is all in the details. This weekend the team will pull back the curtain on Lost Souls, a purgatory-themed karaoke bar where guests will belt out an assortment of jams surrounded by monsters, demons and other wayward spirits. Ask Louis Tikaram about his ideal Christmas lunch spread would be and he'll say there's nothing better than a tray of fresh mangoes and a procession of killer waves to surf. At Stanley, however, it's different. In the lead-up to Christmas the talented chef is cooking up a cracker of a festive feast, with three kinds of banquets boasting loads of Cantonese delights to devour. As the year winds down, we caught up with Louis to talk about how 2023 has treated the Howard Smith Wharves stand-out, his favourite summer produce, highlights of his current menu, which restaurants he's loving right now and what he'll really be cooking on Christmas Day. more
