Pavement Whispers: The Star Brisbane gives a sneak peek at its forthcoming entertainment venue, LiveWire
Brisbane’s live-music scene is set to score a boon in the form of a brand-new inner-city entertainment venue. When The Star Brisbane opens as part of the $3.6-billion Queen’s Wharf development, so too will LiveWire – an energetic hub boasting a jam-packed schedule of music, comedy and other special events. Here’s what we know …
We’re mere months away from the official unveiling of the landmark Queen’s Wharf development and we’re bracing for what will likely be a record-breaking cavalcade of hospitality announcements. The team behind The Star Brisbane is doing its part to stoke the flames of excitement, drip-feeding us nosy newshounds a string of interest-piquing tidbits. So far, the company has shared details of three Sky Deck venues (casual all-day diner Babblers, Euro-inspired restaurant Aloria and open-air rooftop bar Cicada Blu), Italian-inspired eatery Cucina Regina, a new home for Luke Nguyen’s Asian-fusion dining hall Fat Noodle, and lively cocktail bar Cherry.
This week the team has revealed plans for entertainment venue LiveWire, which is shaping up to be a hot spot for live music and late-night merrymaking. Located on level five within the brand-new casino, the venue will carry on the legacy of its predecessor, Treasury Brisbane’s LiveWire 24/7 Sports Bar, upping the ante with panoramic views of the Brisbane River, a plush interior aesthetic (envisioned by leading international design firm Hassel), a dance floor and state-of-the-art lighting and sound system. Nearby, a previously announced 732-sqm Sports Bar will give punters a chance to mingle while catching headline fixtures on big screens.
While LiveWire’s schedule of events will be released closer to opening, The Star Brisbane confirmed that the venue will host performances from homegrown talent, headline artists, gut-busting comedy performances and dazzling drag shows. Live musicians, comedians and entertainers will hold attention thanks to a number of strategically positioned suspended speakers, which will immerse audiences in sound while a custom-designed ceiling will allow for maximum acoustic control. Meanwhile, the venue’s 19-m long bar will dispense an array of beverages, including LiveWire’s signature cocktail, The Rocktail – a tantalisingly sweet elixir featuring a blend of strawberry and passionfruit puree.
“Brisbane is building a well-deserved reputation as a world class city and as such needs a vibrant night-time entertainment economy that thrives every day of the week,” says The Star Brisbane’s chief operating officer of hospitality, Kelvin Dodt. “LiveWire will contribute to Brisbane’s cultural fabric and ensure the city’s new multi-billion-dollar project reenergises a previously under-utilised riverside precinct through entertainment, dining, art and unique experiences for everyone to enjoy and embrace their way.”
The Star Brisbane will be commencing a staged opening from August 2024 – stay tuned for more information on LiveWire’s opening.
