Cocktail creations, scenic art trails and backpacking alpacas – things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend

Greetings from the soggy depths of the oh-so-rainy Gold Coast. If, like us, you've spent the last fortnight trapped inside like Rapunzel in her castle, wistfully staring out the window in the hopes that our one true love (aka the sun) will come to save us, then get excited because legend says our knight in shining armour is on the way. That's right, folks, the overlords at the weather bureau have dangled the promise of a sunny weekend right before our eyes. You can bet your bottom dollar that we are chomping at the bit to fling open our windows and run barefoot into those sweet, sweet rays of golden sunshine. If you're not much of a runner, there are plenty of other exciting events on the Gold Coast from Thursday May 26 until Sunday May 29 that can act as your long-awaited debut out of the house. more

The Langham, Gold Coast is set to usher in a new era of luxury

From the moment the ground broke in 2014, the magnificent $1.4 billion Jewel project in Surfers Paradise has captivated the city's collective attention. At long last, we're set to get our first glimpse inside the hallmark development with the tallest of the three eye-catching towers home to the Gold Coast's newest resort hotel, The Langham, Gold Coast, which is set to welcome guests from June 23, 2022. The superlative 339-room hotel, which also includes Jewel Residences, managed by Langham, will herald a luxurious new era for the Gold Coast as the first development with direct beach access to be built in the city in more than 30 years. more

Rocking the suburbs – Burleigh bEATS is bringing tunes and street eats to the beachside

Spending an afternoon meandering around Burleigh Heads eating and drinking, popping in and out of boutiques and soaking in the sunshine (hopefully) before retiring to the hill with a picnic has to be one of our all-time favourite ways to spend a day. If that also sounds like your ideal weekend activity, Burleigh bEATS street festival is here to facilitate all of that and more on Saturday May 28. There will be street food, entertainment and good vibes galore ... more

Help support Regional Flavours vendors with this handy online initiative

It's raining, it's pouring, it's ruining all of our weekend plans! The recent wet weather has once again caused havoc on our social calendar, forcing a host of events to postpone or outright cancel – not only leaving us bereft of fun and frivolity, but a lot of vendors out of pocket. Regional Flavours was one such event forced to can its 2022 festival and now its bevy of stallholders have an excess of goodies that are at risk of spoiling. The Regional Flavours team has created a handy online portal for locals to show their support for the stallholders, restaurants and musicians affected by the cancellation. more

The Gold Coast’s luxe activewear label Cleo Harper opens a boutique in Burleigh Heads

Back before the term 'athleisure' was coined, when exercise gear was coated in slogans and graphics, Vanessa Levey decided to do things a little differently. With a background in ballet and dance, Vanessa sought to fill the gap in the world of workout wear with something a little more feminine and refined. This was the genesis of Cleo Harper, which has gone on to amass a loyal legging-clad following of folk who cannot get enough of the Gold Coast-based brand. Fast-forward six years and countless collections, Cleo Harper has opened the doors to its first dedicated retail store in Burleigh Heads. more

Celebrate producers, growers and flavour-makers at this year’s Scenic Rim Eat Local Week

A self-guided tour of the Scenic Rim is one of our favourite ways to spend a spare weekend, but a visit becomes essential when Scenic Rim Eat Local Week rolls around. There's simply no better time to cruise inland and take in the natural splendour of the region, as that's when the growers, artisans and culinary wizards put on a show for the entire state to enjoy. This year's program boasts everything, from bush tucker cooking workshops, cocktails with camels and long lunches to paddock feasts, beer- and banter-filled brunches, and wintertime harvest festivals. The 11th annual Scenic Rim Eat Local Week is running from Saturday June 25 to Sunday July 3 – here's what's on the cards ... more

Voting this weekend? Here’s a handy map showing where you can snag a post-ballot democracy sausage

Election day is all about making big choices. Not just in regards to who you'd prefer to lead the country, but also what toppings you're going to get on your democracy sausage. Are you a staunch tomato sauce supporter, or are you swinging towards barbecue? Will there be mustard in the mix? How about onions? Do you put them above the sausage, or under? We know there's always a clash of ideology between those that like their snag to sit gently down the middle of their bread slice and those that prefer it to dissect diagonally. No matter what your preference, we can all agree that a sausage sizzle (and a cake stall) are essential components of the contemporary voting experience. Want to guarantee your polling place has the goods ahead of time? We've found a handy map you can refer to! more
