Blues, boats, magic cocktails and raunchy pillow fights – things to do on the Gold Coast this weekend

Grab your fedora, folks. It's time to roll out the red carpet for the very best blues has on offer, with Blues on Broadbeach returning for another year. Will it rain? Who knows. Is a fedora a questionable fashion choice? Perhaps. Are you guaranteed a good time while wearing a fedora and dancing to live music in the rain? Absolutely. If blues aren't your thang, then fear not! The Gold Coast is playing host to an array of events, gigs, workshops, and markets worthy of your time this weekend. Whether it's magic and cocktails, champagne-fuelled pillow fights, poppin' bottles on yachts or getting acquainted with Mother Nature, here is your guide to events on the Gold Coast from Thursday May 19 until Sunday May 22. more

The Langham, Gold Coast is set to usher in a new era of luxury

From the moment the ground broke in 2014, the magnificent $1.4 billion Jewel project in Surfers Paradise has captivated the city's collective attention. At long last, we're set to get our first glimpse inside the hallmark development with the tallest of the three eye-catching towers home to the Gold Coast's newest resort hotel, The Langham, Gold Coast, which is set to welcome guests from June 23, 2022. The superlative 339-room hotel, which also includes Jewel Residences, managed by Langham, will herald a luxurious new era for the Gold Coast as the first development with direct beach access to be built in the city in more than 30 years. more

Celebrate producers, growers and flavour-makers at this year’s Scenic Rim Eat Local Week

A self-guided tour of the Scenic Rim is one of our favourite ways to spend a spare weekend, but a visit becomes essential when Scenic Rim Eat Local Week rolls around. There's simply no better time to cruise inland and take in the natural splendour of the region, as that's when the growers, artisans and culinary wizards put on a show for the entire state to enjoy. This year's program boasts everything, from bush tucker cooking workshops, cocktails with camels and long lunches to paddock feasts, beer- and banter-filled brunches, and wintertime harvest festivals. The 11th annual Scenic Rim Eat Local Week is running from Saturday June 25 to Sunday July 3 – here's what's on the cards ... more

Voting this weekend? Here’s a handy map showing where you can snag a post-ballot democracy sausage

Election day is all about making big choices. Not just in regards to who you'd prefer to lead the country, but also what toppings you're going to get on your democracy sausage. Are you a staunch tomato sauce supporter, or are you swinging towards barbecue? Will there be mustard in the mix? How about onions? Do you put them above the sausage, or under? We know there's always a clash of ideology between those that like their snag to sit gently down the middle of their bread slice and those that prefer it to dissect diagonally. No matter what your preference, we can all agree that a sausage sizzle (and a cake stall) are essential components of the contemporary voting experience. Want to guarantee your polling place has the goods ahead of time? We've found a handy map you can refer to! more

Pencil these free gigs into your diary – Touch Sensitive, Running Touch and Savage are heading to Live on The Lawn

If we had to name just one thing that we really missed during the pandemic, it would have to be live music. Sure, we yearned for nights out to dinner, parties with friends and the chance to hop on a plane, but the electricity that comes with soaking up live music in person is a feeling that cannot be replicated. Thankfully, the legends at Garden Kitchen & Bar felt the same yearning for live tunes and continue to serve up plenty of good vibrations and free headline acts, as part of Bacardi's Live on The Lawn. More than just your average free gig at the local, Live on The Lawn has called in the big guns of Australian music to help you make up for time lost to lockdowns. So, if you're in desperate need of a boogie and are keen to experience the thrill of seeing an artist IRL, be sure to schedule these events in your diary for autumn. more

The family behind Lupo is back with a 16-seat micro-restaurant, Piatto

When Mermaid Beach's much-loved Lupo announced last drinks, we think we speak for everyone who ever dined there when we say there was a collective gasp. If there's one thing we've learned about the exceptionally hard-working Pearce family over the years, it's that they aren't afraid to shake things up, even when their venue is at peak popularity. We saw it with Broadbeach's Espana, which later became Franc's Wine Bar & Deli, and now, history has repeated. After a brief hiatus for renovations, may we introduce you to Piatto, Lupo's pint-sized successor.  more
