Whether spied at the roaster’s own coffee-slinging establishments or at one of the brand’s numerous cafe clients, the white lightning bolt of Fonzie Abbott Coffee Roastery is regarded by many a surefire sign of quality. Now, that lightning is set to strike the heart of Newstead, with the Brisbane-born outfit set to open a brand-new roastery and cafe in the suburb’s industrial backstreets. Here’s what we know …

For most of its existence, Fonzie Abbott has been headquartered at its Fox Street factory home in Albion. Demand for the roaster’s product has been increasing lately, with Fonzie opening two new coffee-slinging locations of its own (Vice Coffee House in New Farm and a drive-thru concept in Lutwyche) within the last year. To keep up with this increasing demand, founder Dan Pappas and his team are upping Fonzie’s production capacity with a brand-new roastery and cafe in Newstead, opening next month.

Tucked away in an industrial pocket near Bunnings Warehouse and the Breakfast Creek Lifestyle Precinct on Ross Street, Fonzie Abbott Newstead will see the team look to establish a new go-to hub for locals, workers, gym-goers and Fonzie fans far and wide. Boasting a slick minimalist monochrome design, the warehouse space will be a comfortable destination to witness Fonzie’s roasting process firsthand, while also sampling coffee at its absolute freshest. The site will also boast a retail space, where folks will be able to nab bags of Fonzie Abbott beans, at-home brewing apparatus and merch.

“We are thrilled to open our doors to the Newstead community and share our passion for exceptional specialty coffee,” said Dan Pappas in a press statement. “Our cafe not only offers delicious coffee but also provides a unique experience where customers can witness the roasting process up close.”

Fonzie Abbott Newstead officially opens to the public on Saturday April 20 following a short soft-opening period commencing on Monday April 15. Stay tuned for an up-close look inside next month.
