WhichWay Uncle

BEMAC and Black History Month Present: WhichWay Uncle on Thursday July 21 and Friday July 22.

Some of Australia’s most respected Indigenous artists are coming together to celebrate over 40,000 years of the essential role of the songman and the role of uncles in traditional and contemporary Australian Indigenous cultures.

WhichWay Uncle is presented as part of the 2016 Black History Month celebrations with the support of Brisbane City Council.

Getano Bann, Joe Geia and Troy Brady combine almost 100 years of songwriting experience and storytelling in an inspirational show of musical collaboration and cultural wisdom.

Getano Bann is a singer, songwriter, storyteller and music therapist. Raised on the banks of the Pioneer River in his hometown of Mackay, North Queensland; music, dance, storytelling and humour were an influential and integral part of his childhood, growing up in an extended Torres Strait Islander family.

Joe Geia is a composer, guitarist, singer and didgeridoo player who has been recognised as one of the most influential figures in the development of contemporary Indigenous music. He first came to prominence as a member of the influential Aboriginal band, No Fixed Address.

Troy Brady is a GuguYalanji/Birri Gubba man who delivers soulful sounds with captivating lyrics and an honest love of country. Hailing from far North Queensland, the artist has a unique way of delivering his distinctive songs in a subtle, yet powerful way.
