The new W Brisbane will be a complete new-build hotel, meaning the Brisbane CBD is in for a great new addition to the city. The brand is known for their stunning design and guest experience. From the moment of arrival, guests are invited into surprising, sensory environments where amplified entertainment, vibrant lounges, modern guest rooms and innovative cocktails and cuisine create more than just a hotel experience, but a luxury lifestyle destination. Scheduled to open in early 2018 as part of a mixed-use development, W Brisbane – developed by Shayher Leisure Holdings Pty Ltd – will bring a new interpretation of modern luxury to George Street at the western end of the central business district, overlooking the Brisbane River. more

Everingham & Watson launches family tartan print

Local Australiana chariot Everingham & Watson has embraced its Scottish roots and developed its own tartan based on founders Liz and Susie’s family tartans. The Everingham & Watson tartan has been dubbed Bruce + Sheila, melding the two cultures at the heart of the brand. The Bruce + Sheila tartan draws inspiration from the Buchanan and the Royal Stewart tartans steeped in Liz and Susie’s respective histories. This new pattern comes splayed across cushions, cards and a letterpress gift tag, which has been lovingly printed by Woolloongabba friendlies Little Peach Co.. The Bruce cushion is hand-screenprinted in royal blue and black ink on beige European linen, while Sheila employs royal blue and pink water-based inks on white European linen. The brand’s new range of printed cards sees a melding of the two tartans on white card, with the collection also dotted with designs… more

Houses Awards winners announced for 2014

The 2014 Houses Awards were held at Sydney’s Doltone House Hyde Park last week, with nine winners and 21 commendations awarded across the eight categories. The top honour of Australian House of the Year was awarded to the Invisible House by Peter Stutchbury Architecture, which sees a residential dwelling exhibiting beautiful connection to its panoramic landscape in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales. Brisbane-based studio Owen and Vokes and Peters was the sole Queensland firm amongst the winners, receiving two commendations. The Panorama Drive property in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland received a commendation in the House Alteration and Addition under 200 sqm, which saw strategic interventions to an existing timber house.
