Extension planned for Coorparoo Skate Park

For the bounty of local skateboarders wanting a slick concrete slab on which to regularly practise kickflips and airwalk grabs, grand plans are in motion to extend Coorparoo Skate Park.

The extension is proposed to double the size of the skate park to 1000 sqm, with D Brand Skateparks awarded the contract to prepare concept design. Brisbane City Council held a meeting with local boarders earlier this month to discuss ideas for the design. Locals proposed a contemporary street style facility, which is lacking in Brisbane, while others supported adding a vert ramp. The group also recommended fixing inconsistencies in the current mini-ramp.

From this community feedback, D Brand Skateparks will prepare a draft concept design, which will outline scale, style and suggested obstacles and other features, and will be presented for comment by November 2014. Following this, the concept will be tendered out for detailed design and construction. To have your say on the design, get in touch with Brisbane Skateboarding Association via Facebook, or use the hashtag #coopsextension on Instagram or Twitter.
