Metro to deliver Newstead Central development
The city’s sprawling skyline is set to rise as developers release plans for the empty pockets of land in Newstead and begin to ramp up construction. Once an industrial purlieu skirting the city, underdeveloped Newstead is fast becoming the next sought-after suburb for living in Brisbane.
Brisbane property developer David Devine of Metro Property Development has submitted an application for a five-tower residential development on the corner of Ann and Stratton Streets, next to the Waterloo Hotel. Totalling $400 million, the property will comprise 922 one- and two-bedroom apartments – with just two three-bedroom apartments – across the five towers, which reach up to 20 storeys high. The design includes a multi-level waterfall and a lagoon with an artificial beach, as well as a recreation terrace, a lap and plunge pool, picnic areas, rooftop barbecue facilities and a fitness studio. Metro has engaged Brisbane architecture firm Cox Rayner to deliver the residential towers, which will offer direct views back to the city. The ground level will also incorporate retail opportunities that front both Ann Street and Stratton Street.
This latest Metro development application comes following the approval of two high-rise apartment buildings framing a man-made beach on Longland Street in Newstead. The $160 million Newstead Towers development near the Gasworks precinct is expected to commence construction in November. Metro also currently has four development projects underway across Brisbane, including Broadway on Ann, Central Village and Brooklyn on Brookes in Fortitude Valley and The Plaza in South Brisbane.
