TWE Kurilpa Renewal Plan

Draft plan released for Kurilpa Riverfront Renewal

In global cities around the world, residents and visitors alike habitually flock to the river’s edge that curves its way through the metropolis – lounging along the banks by day, dancing by night, while restaurants maximise on offering premier water views with a meal.

Following successful redevelopments of industrial waterfront land in Teneriffe and Newstead – which commenced in the 1990s – the South Brisbane pocket of Kurilpa is set to become a new riverside community precinct. Stretching from GOMA along Montague Road towards West End, the 25-hectare plot of industrial riverside land is set to be maximised on as part of the Kurilpa Riverfront Renewal project. This urban regeneration project will see this north-facing river frontage become host to a medley of apartments, offices, cultural venues, retail and dining, and is expected to house 11,000 residents and 8,000 employees.

Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government are facilitating the project, working in partnership with key landowners. The Kurilpa Riverfront Renewal development aims to deliver on the Brisbane City Council’s River’s Edge Strategy, which seeks to improve access and amenity along the inner-city reaches of the Brisbane River. This new prominent inner-city neighbourhood is touted to be delivered over the next 20 years, with seven priority aspects set for five to ten years for delivery. These include reclaiming Riverside Drive for parkland, delivering a major new cultural facility, a 10,000 sqm riverfront park and amphitheatre, high-frequency bus service, urban playground, and a river-based transport stop. Community feedback is being sought until Friday October 3 – have your say here, and browse the master plan here.
