The Street Photographer: The Roastery Cafe

While the smell of roasting coffee wafts from the roasting half of the converted warehouse, accents of red, white and yellow catch the eye at The Roastery Cafe. Taking appearance seriously, The Roastery Cafe has ensured its latte art isn’t the only thing to be hitting top design notes since opening in March this year. Workers cage lights hang above the shiny La Marzocco machine, while a rustic wooden communal table sits in the middle of the cafe space. Colourful stools span the length of a wooden bench on one side, the trio of hues continuing the theme to the alleyway seating space out the back of the cafe. Here exposed brick wall meets vibrant street art – a pleasant spot to sip on one of Rouge Coffee’s four refined blends or a Tea Drop tea. Check out The Roastery Cafe on The Street Photographer. more

Make rich and woodsy Mushroom and Asparagus Bruschetta

This week, we've taken the delicious notion of traditional bruschetta and turned it on its head, substituting a tomato and herb topping for a juicy wild mushroom and asparagus concoction. Thyme is well known for complementing fresh asparagus and woodsy fungi, while a rich dollop of goats curd adds a creamy touch. We picked up our mini asparagus from James St Market and Leavain spelt sourdough from Sourced Grocer. more

Tuck into beef cheeks at Simpatico, Ortiga and The Survey Co.

Taking that first bite of a butter-soft, succulent beef cheek can change your palate forever, as the taste of the rich, sticky juices is implanted in your memory long after the plate has been wiped clean with a slab of bread. Requiring a decent investment of time to make – albeit a rewarding one – beef cheeks obtain their tenderness from being cooked very slowly, until they can be cut with the side of a spoon and scooped onto your plate with its precious juices. more
