Find spicy Jalapeño Poppers at Dos Amigos, Taringa

With the ever-expanding number of food chains popping up around town, Mexican fever is on our minds. But before the Guzmans and the Tuckerias came to town, Dos Amigos was sitting up on a hill in Taringa serving up authentic Mexican meals to the burrito inclined. A forefather of Mexican cuisine in Brisbane, Dos Amigos has been frying beans and wrapping tortillas since 1987.

Anyone who has ventured to the native land would probably have come to like, if not crave, the spicy flavours of jalapeños. Whether pickled, smoked or eaten raw, the kick is addictive. Give your tastebuds a trial run at Dos Amigos with the Jalapeño Poppers. A crunchy, crumbed and deep-fried outer shell conceals the stuffed jalapeño. But once your first bite punctures the surface, a tsunami of popping juices floods your mouth, before the smooth cream-cheese stuffing eases the fire. For those who are willing to experiment but prefer something to take the edge off the heat, cool sour cream accompanies the jalapeños, or keep a margarita on hand for an icy shift in temperature.

For those with milder tastes, indulge in the Amigo Special – a chicken enchilada casserole made with layers of soft corn tortilla, shredded chicken breast, cheese and the special Amigo creamy mushroom and sweet Anaheim sauce. Or if jalapeños are like water to your diet, add them to any meal, whether tacos, quesadillas, fajitas or burritos.
