Coffee and croissants at The Rogue Rennard, Paddington

A sunny spot to soak up some rays and enjoy a well-crafted coffee and buttery croissant, The Rogue Rennard is the newest espresso nook to grace Paddington’s main street.

Tucked into a corner off Latrobe Terrace, The Rogue Rennard is the creation of friends Dane Huitfeldt and Alin Dumitru. Two gentlefoxes with a passion for coffee and a history of perfectly poured lattes, Dane and Alin decided to branch out on their own, slotting a slice of French living into the Paddington cafe scape.

Vintage paintings sit in frames around the interior, while the counter is a 100-year-old sideboard detailed with brass, which the pair found in the back of the New Farm Antique Centre. Inside the counter, fluffy buttery croissants sit next to chocolate- and almond-filled contemporaries, while sweet fruit-topped danishes fill the drawer adjacent. The pastries are sourced from French native Sylvain of West End Bakery who has been rolling croissants and folding danish edges in Brisbane for more than 20 years. A shiny La Marzocco machine extracts Cup Coffee brews that can then be topped with Maleny Dairies milk or Bonsoy.

Wanting to shape a lived-in and cosy atmosphere, the boys are slowly finishing the interiors and growing the offerings, with plans to serve light, simple creative meals in the near future. The courtyard out the front warrants reserving a slot of time for moseying through the pages of a book while basking in the sun over your French fillings.
