Luminescence

Luminescence is an exhibition of vivid oil paintings by Rachel Apelt. Opening on Friday June 17 at Jugglers Art Space, it is Rachel Apelt’s first solo show in nine years. Like all things given time to ripen, the show is full of rich flavour, themes and colour. Through her process of painting, then cutting, reassembling and stitching canvas, she explores the fluid nature of the ‘self’. She sees the ‘self’ as a process rather than a fixed state, and the seams she stitches play on a metaphor for the choices and juxtapositions we make each day as we continually ‘become’. The title of the show reflects the movement from density to an increasing luminosity that opens in the mind and heart when we pay attention to this process.

Luminescence opens on Friday June 17 and continues until Sunday June 29. Gallery hours are Monday-Friday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Sunday 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, and an additional late viewing is available on Friday June 24 from 6:00–9:00 pm. Jugglers Art Space is located at 103 Brunswick St, Fortitude Valley.
