Free Speech in the Age of Terror: Peter Greste

Award-winning journalist Peter Greste will present the 2015 Griffith Lecture at the Queensland Conservatorium on Friday December 4. In Free Speech in the Age of Terror, Mr Greste will discuss the increasing limitations imposed on journalists across the world. Drawing on his experience as a foreign correspondent and prisoner on terrorism charges in Egypt, he will examine the relationship between journalism and government in a post 9/11 world. He concludes that in seeking to make ourselves safer, we may in fact be destabilising the very system that has made us among the most prosperous, stable and secure democracies in the world. Mr Greste continues to campaign for freedom of speech, freedom of the press and the hundreds of journalists currently held in detention around the world. He is a state finalist in the 2016 Australian of the Year Awards.

Spaces are limited and RSVPs are essential to this free event. Email [email protected] if you are interest in attending.
