Opera Australia's The Ring Cycle

Opera Australia’s The Ring Cycle

This December, QPAC will host Opera Australia as it presents an experience so good it spans over 15 hours across four exhilarating nights. Get ready to experience the pinnacle of opera that is – Wagner’s Ring Cycle. From December 1–21, The Ring Cycle will take you on a thrilling adventure of men and maidens, gods and giants, dragons and dwarves as greed and violence threaten to destroy the heavens and earth. This spectacular new production by visionary Chinese director Chen Shi-Zheng explores Wagner’s legendary tale through a futuristic lens as he imagines a parallel universe where many cultures walk together

Immerse yourself in The Ring Cycle’s four operas – Das Rheingold, Die Walkure, Siegfried and Gotterdammerung. When performed together, they are collectively known as Der Ring des Nibelungen or simply ‘The Ring Cycle’. This new production is exclusive to Brisbane and premieres at QPAC on Friday December 1, 2023.

With years of experience under his belt, French conductor Philippe Auguin has conducted the Ring Cycle more than a dozen times, and continues to lead a cast of international stars and some of Australia’s most accomplished performers, bringing you a memorable experience of a musical masterpiece. The operas will be sung in German, with English surtitles to translate.

Update: While tickets were originally on sale as a complete package of four operas only, Opera Australia has released individual tickets for each opera in the Brisbane Ring Cycle, giving audiences the opportunity to get a taste of Wagner’s epic masterpiece without committing to the full 15 hours.
