Suminagashi: Paper Marbling

Suminagashi: Paper Marbling

Marbling is a traditional Japanese artform which dates back to the 12th century. Floating inks are used to create colourful patterns on the surface of water and then transfered to paper, leaving you with a unique abstract pattern.

During the workshop we will experiment with different paper stocks and textures as the inks behave differently depending on the paper’s absorbency. You will be shown how to manipulate the whisps and swirls of the ink so you achieve your desired pattern.

No experience necessary and all materials will be provided.
