Sublime: Contemporary works from the Collection
Sublime: Contemporary works from the Collection features artists that create effects of wonder and uncertainty by engaging with sacred architectures, sublime geometries and the power of the natural world. The exhibition includes large-scale works from the Collection that transform perceptions of space, such as Zilvinas Kempinas’s Columns 2006, Michael Sailstorfer’s Wolken (Clouds) 2010, and the newly acquired HD video installation Raumlichtkunst (Space-Light-Art) c.1926/2012. This work is a landmark reconstruction by the Centre for Visual Music, Los Angeles, of filmmaker and avant-garde artist Oskar Fischinger’s historic performances that brought together abstract art, cinema and music. It is being shown for the first time in Australia, after acclaimed recent exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, Tate Modern, London, and Palais de Tokyo, Paris.
