QSO, Morrison, Meyer

In this collaboration with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO), the word ‘maestro’ has never been more apt. Legendary U.S. double bassist, Edgar Meyer, making his Australian debut, will join forces with virtuosic trumpeter, James Morrison, to perform the world’s first double concerto for bass and trumpet.

Specially commissioned by Queensland Music Festival, QSO and Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, the concerto was written by renowned contemporary composer and violist, Max Savikangas.

The evening’s program begins with Nielsen’s colourful Maskarade Overture, followed by Savikangas’s world premiere, and concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No.5. A true musical celebration of iconic and important composers, virtuosic ability, and the music of Finland.
