Brisbane Festival welcomes one of the iconic figures of alt rock and the co-founder of Sonic Youth, Kim Gordon. Kim has been writing and performing experimental rock music for more than three decades, in addition to her work as a visual artist, writer and designer. In 1981, she co-founded the band Sonic Youth, for which she sang and played guitar and bass. Her visual art has been exhibited worldwide.

Gordon’s memoir Girl in a Band was published in February 2015. Its title refers to the most asked and most reviled question, “what’s it like to be…?” It opens in 2011, with Gordon looking out at the audience in São Paulo during Sonic Youth’s last ever concert. Body/Head, her guitar duo with Bill Nace, released its acclaimed debut album, Coming Apart in September 2013. Supporting her at the show is Waax, bringing their punk-infused rock to the stage. This is certain to be one of the most talked-about concerts this year.
