Celebrating the past, present and future of the world’s first permaculture ecovillage, this documentary, Crystal Waters – 30 Years On, anchors the 30th anniversary of gaining legal recognition of their community. Recipient of a UN Habitat Award in 1996, on 650 acres of rural land near Maleny, Queensland, Crystal Waters is known worldwide for its nature reserve, educational courses and healthy lifestyle.

This documentary features resident permaculture teachers, Morag Gamble, Robin Clayfield – and also one of the ecovillage founding designers Max Lindegger – guiding us through the various aspects of this developing experiment. Many other residents share their views and passions and we explore the many activities this community can be proud of. As part of the Global Ecovillage Network (GEN), which bridges different cultures and countries, Crystal Waters is in its infancy but looks forward to a strong and healthy future. Such a brief presentation is only a behind-the-scenes snapshot of a growing community and cannot investigate the many complexities in the life of a continually changing ecovillage such as Crystal Waters.
