Coppélia

Coppélia

Queensland Ballet returns to QPAC in 2024 with a collision of love and mayhem in the airy, light-hearted ballet with Australian flair, Coppélia.

Taking to the stage from June 7–22, 2024, Greg Horsman’s Coppélia is a fun and mischievous ballet that will charm audiences of all ages. The tale of a beautiful, life-like doll and two quarrelling young lovers create comic chaos in this spirited ballet, which is set in the sun-drenched South Australian town of Hahndorf in the late 19th century. Created at the end of the Romantic era, it was loosely adapted from Arthur Saint-Léon’s three-act ballet first performed by the Paris Opera in 1870 and incorporates elements of both Romanticism and Classicism. The touching and witty modern-day take features a vivid Australian aesthetic, brought to life with joyful dance and the charming music of Léo Delibes.

Coppélia is a co-production between Queensland Ballet and West Australian Ballet. Don’t miss its limited season at QPAC’s Playhouse from June 7–22, 2024. Tickets are available now via QPAC.
