BrisRock May Showcase

When Stone Chimp formed in 2010 they decided to create new-sounding music, combining various influences: late nights, vodka and a ’70s style porno mansion in the Kenmore bush. The guys self-recorded, produced, and funded their first, self titled EP—which was mixed by Marcello Milani and Aussie legends, The Toothfaeries, in late 2010. The music has been described as: an eclectic mix of well-thought-out songs; too hard to categorise in one genre; and sounding like anything from David bowie to System Of A Down on some tracks. The often haunting and daunting samples used in some tracks give the songs a totally original feel and sound.

As an explosive Brisbane three-piece, The Iron Eye have managed to rattle and shake stages in both QLD and NSW over the last 18 months. Described as ‘Weighty, voluptuous and beautiful like a Rubens nude’ (Mouthzoff Mag, 2014), they bring a new brand of modern rock to the listener: something fresh yet familiar. Having racked-up some impressive supports alongside bands such as King Of The North, Jericco, The Dead Love, Sub Atari Knives, Greenthief and Nine Sons Of Dan, they are amped to make this year even bigger! With 2015 already upon us, look out for The Iron Eye’s new releases due later this year.

Jacket is a Brisbane band which was created in the outer suburbs during 2014. The band originally consisted of Jordan Cardenas on guitar and vocals, Max Kennedy on drums and Rob Clarke on bass as well as vocals. The band describe themselves as a stoner/desert rock band—they are heavily influenced by Queens of the Stone Age, Ty Segall and Band of Skulls (among others). Jacket has been gigging around Brisbane and have been drawing positive reactions from fans and the average punter alike. Although the guys were happy with their sound, they longed for another guitarist to fulfil their stoner rock vision. Enter guitarist and vocalist, Brad Heber. With this new infusion of sound, the boys from Jacket are reworking their original material and adding new songs to the mix to provide an energetic, engaging and highly entertaining performance.

In Void is a heavy psychedelic rock band from Brisbane. Inspired by a darker, murkier psychedelia, the band formed in late 2014 as the brainchild of former members of the now defunct prog quartet Electrified Fooling Machine. In the short time since In Void were conceived, the band has played all over the expansive Brisbane music scene, have recorded an as-of-yet unreleased EP and debuted this EP at the Jungle Love Festival in 2014. Celestial, ominous, and crushingly groovy—In Void invite you to take a star-blazing ride through the furthest corners of consciousness, space, time and eternity.

We Become Ghosts have transformed over the years into a three-piece power-rock band with a sound that sits comfortably between Avenged Sevenfold and Nirvana with a good dose of Muse and The Dear Hunter thrown in for good measure. We Become Ghosts bring high-octane energy to live performances, mixed with soulful musings about love, despair and a shattered world.
