SHAPE OF WATER at Brisbane Quarter

Dive into a majestic seascape of creativity as Brisbane Quarter hosts art installation SHAPE OF WATER, from July 22 to August 27. The installation is inspired by the work of Dutch designer Iris van Herpen and the current major GOMA exhibition – Iris van Herpen: Sculpting the Senses.

SHAPE OF WATER will light up 300 George Street both figuratively and literally, as a limited-edition large-scale exterior light show illuminates the facade in an array of blue, green, silver and white, immersing visitors into the raw, wild and soulful beauty of the deep sea.

Led by Lydia Pearson – renowned Australian fashion designer and Lecturer Fashion at QUT’s School of Design – eight final year QUT Bachelor of Design students have drawn inspiration from Iris to create their own interpretation of the beauty she finds in nature. The eight stunning designs, fashioned using upcycled materials in promotion of sustainable style, will be available to view at Brisbane Quarter.

It’s not just students who are feeling inspired. Brisbane Quarter’s elite restaurants are offering themed beverages and bites, drawn from the essence of the exhibition. Sip on Persone’s ocean-inspired Aqua Dolce Cocktail or take your taste buds on a trip to to the beautiful beaches of Ko Samui with Phat Boy’s Tuk Tuk Cocktail. Enjoy a Sea Salt Oreo Frappe at Meet Tea & Coffee or O’Gabee Coffee & Co’s Ocean Latte and Sinking Scones, or push the boat out at W Brisbane’s Living Room Bar Water and Dreams High Tea experience. Savoury sensualists can seek out Brisbane Phoenix’s The Red Sea – a Szechuan hot chilli fish broth featuring the native Asian delicacy, Black Snakehead – or Tenya’s Deep Sea Dreaming duo of signature layered cocktail Mt Fuji Spritz and King.

Plunge into an experience that combines art, fashion and food at SHAPE OF WATER. For more information, head to Brisbane Quarter’s website.
