Pavement Whispers: Vol 36 August 18

From whispers of pizza joints to laneway pop-ups, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Corbett & Claude
Indooroopilly Shopping Centre’s Station Road dining precinct will be welcoming a newcomer this Saturday August 22 – Corbett & Claude. The eatery will take over the space once occupied by The Mero Kitchen & Bar and will be open seven days a week from 11:00 am to late. The concept was inspired by the building of its soon-to-be-opened sibling venue at 283 Elizabeth Street, which is set to open on Sunday September 6. Approximately 100 years ago, the Elizabeth Street building housed a bar and dining hall as part of the Commercial Travellers Association, and the two new venues will be bringing this idea back to life with beer and wine on tap alongside share plates, charcuterie, cheese plates and pizzas. The Elizabeth Street venue will also see the opening of a laneway cafe named Mr. Claude – look out on The Weekend Edition for more information soon.

The Hope & Anchor
Jamie Webb is continuing his expansion following on from the success of Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall and Sonny’s House of Blues with a new venue in Paddington. The Hope & Anchor will soon open in the space formerly occupied by The Lark and is touted as an English-style pub with a maritime feel. Nick Stapleton, former chef at The Survey Co., has come on board to help prepare a menu of share plates and bar snacks that will accompany a selection of beers, wines and cocktails at the bar. The Hope & Anchor will boast a courtyard space in addition to the cosy interior. Expect the venue to open in October.

Sin Vida
The clever chaps behind Mighty Mighty cue & brew and Buffalo Bar are at it again. The team is opening its third venue Sin Vida today, August 18, joining Mighty Mighty in Fortitude Valley’s M&A Lane. The venue will offer an adventurous Mexican menu, drawing inspiration from Meso-American and Aztec cultures, as well as Day of the Dead traditions. Alongside the tasty Mexican morsels will be a fully stocked tequila bar, as well as a Day of the Dead-themed cocktail list. Look out on The Weekend Edition this Thursday August 20 for full details.

Il Capretto
A sweet new local has sprouted in Hamilton, bringing Italian treats and all-organic coffee to Hercules Street. Il Capretto began life as The Kiosk in Noosa National Park, but recently made the move south to nourish Brisbane bellies with the likes of parmesan-crusted jaffles, lemon and almond biscotti, and its own locally roasted blend of Peruvian, Colombian and Ethiopian coffee with your choice of Mary Valley, organic soy, Zymil, almond or rice milk.

Pizzantica Pizzeria
If you’ve been to any number of food truck gatherings in recent years you will have seen Pizzantica serving slices of Napoli-style pizza to hungry customers. Hawthorne residents will soon be able to grab fresh Pizzantica pizza when the business opens its own restaurant on Riding Road. Boasting a top-of-the-line pizza oven imported from Italy, Pizzantica Pizzeria will be cooking close to 20 pizza flavours including red and white sauce varieties as well as an extended menu of antipasti, salads and pasta specials. The pizzeria will also be licensed with craft beer from Green Beacon Brewing and Stone & Wood on offer. Pizzantica Pizzeria will be open in late October or early November.

Haut Bohème pop-up
Former Winn Lane resident Haut Bohème will be springing open a pop-up shop around the corner in Fortitude Valley’s Bakery Lane come September. The dreamy boutique will house founder Chantelle Cox’s own line Farron, as well as accessories label Gold Ordon and some other little surprises from Friday September 4 to Thursday September 17. Keep an eye on the space between Laruche and forthcoming venue The Apo at 680 Ann Street, and stay tuned to Facebook for updates.
