Sisters Steph and Edwina Young both have full-time careers in the finance industry and like working with numbers, but when it comes to food they are extremely passionate, especially about the raw and sweet kind.

With the simple goal of sharing their love of raw food with the Brisbane community, the sisters set up Sweet Beets and attend the Jan Powers Powerhouse Market on first and third Saturday of each month. Starting out with acai smoothie bowls, the girls were then offered the use of a commercial kitchen where they now make beautiful and healthy raw cakes that are gluten and dairy free, vegan and free of refined sugar. These cakes are free of a lot of things but they are beautiful and flavourful, packed with the amazing goodness of ingredients like nuts, coconut milk, coconut butter, cocoa powder, and lucuma powder.

These are not your ordinary cakes, with flavours like passionfruit cheesecake, salted date caramel cheesecake, lemon cheesecake, raspberry white chocolate raw cheesecake, and chocolate, espresso and vanilla cheesecake, as well as slices with flavours including peanut butter and jelly and chocolate mint. Chia parfaits, protein balls and bircher muesli complete the cabinet allowing customers to have their cake without the guilt. Stop by and say hello to these excitable sisters at Sweet Beets – they’ll even be able to give you some tips on the exercise benefits of pole dancing, which is another of their passions.
