The Bookplate Art Project

The Bookplate Art Project

The Bookplate Art Project invites artists to create a small postcard size artwork that will be placed in books for library borrowers to discover from July until September 2024. Borrowers can either keep the mini-artwork or leave it for the next person. The Project commissioned a dozen Brisbane artists to create small works of art inspired by books and stories for this unique participatory art project. Over 200 volunteer artists have registered already to take part.

The Bookplate Art Project is an opportunity to highlight libraries as community hubs for culture, literacy, and places where creative things happen. It also aims to enhance libraries’ connections with the community and celebrate the vital role that art, stories, and free libraries play in Brisbane.

The 12 Brisbane-based artists commissioned by the Project are Marian Drew, Nick Olsen, Dominica Hoare, Jody Rallah, David Jones, Sam Harrison, Gertrude Benjamin, Chelsea Carkeet, Matt James, Wendy Winsley, Judi Dransfield Kuepper, and Alan Innes.
