Spotlight on the Double Bass

Spotlight on the Double Bass

Saving the best till last, the Brisbane Symphony Orchestra’s final concert for 2023 is entitled ‘Spotlight on the Double Bass’.

Conducted by Paul Dean, the orchestra will perform Bottesini’s, Double Bass Concerto no.2 with the principal bassist of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra, Phoebe Russell, as soloist. This concerto is one of the most performed solo works for bass and demonstrates the full range of the bass, with virtuosic playing from the soloist.

In a coup for the orchestra, we will also give the Queensland and Brisbane premieres of Australian Composer James Ledger’s Signal Lost. The final work in the concert is Sibelius’ Symphony no.5, which boasts one of the greatest finales of all time.

For this concert, the orchestra will visit the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba on 29 October and Brisbane City Hall on 5 November. Both concerts are at 3pm.

Brisbane Symphony Orchestra are proudly supported by the Brisbane City Council.
