Seaside Scavenge

Seaside Scavenge is a beach clean-up and clothes swap event where litter becomes a currency to purchase second hand clothes and goods as well as beer from the nearby Pineapple Hotel. Local musicians entertain and speakers discuss aspects of plastic-free living and marine debris awareness. Seven successful events have been held across New South Wales since its debut in Sydney last year, attracting roughly 450 people. On October 29 Brisbane will host its first Seaside/Riverside Scavenge at Cliffs Park in Kangaroo Point.

In total, Seaside Scavenge has collected 537.1 kg of beach litter and saved 15,521 cigarette butts from entering waterways. With the support of Brisbane City Council and other local businesses, there will be prizes to be won for the most rubbish collected and for those who scavenge the farthest.
