Riverbend Ensemble – Brush and Bow

Riverbend Ensemble’s Brush and Bow – Art + Music presents a unique double-header of string quartet music fused with art.

The program features music exclusively from Australian composers, with the exciting inclusion of two newly commissioned works by Brisbane-based composers Thomas Green and Rachel Merton, as well as pieces by Alice Chance, Elena Kats-Chernin, and Queenslanders Robert Davidson and Corrina Bonshek.

The first Brush and Bow concert will take place at Corinda Bowls Club, Friday August 23 at 6:00 pm. Riverbend Ensemble will perform whilst a group of nine artists paint in response to the music, led by the event’s featured artist Jane Thompson. The event will be low key and relaxed with audience members encouraged to walk around and observe the artists. Nourishment will be available from a local food truck and the Bowls Club bar.

The second concert will take place at Graceville Central Uniting Church on Saturday August 24. The ensemble’s performance will be backdropped by projections  by award-winning artist Kate Marek.

Riverbend Ensemble is an independent chamber ensemble led by violinist Helen Carvolth. Founded in 2022, the ensemble has performed in venues across Brisbane, Toowoomba and Maleny. Helen was awarded a Creative Sparks Program grant by Brisbane City Council to produce the Brush and Bow program. The program aims to start conversations about how we experience both art and music in the 21st century.
