Poppies & Poems

Poppies & Poems

Music and poetry meet at Voices of Birralee’s Poppies and Poems to unite the community in First World War commemoration.

The concert will celebrate the beautiful poetry from WW1 and pieces written thereafter, which have helped frame the commemoration of this significant time in Australia and the world’s history.

Featuring Voices of Birralee’s six choirs and a seventh, adult community choir, Birralee Recycled, Poppies and Poems will explore a variety of choral music, including two exciting premieres composed by Paul Jarman and Katherine Ruhle, along with a rousing massed finale involving more than 450 choristers.

As part of the project, Voices of Birralee invites members of the community to submit their WW1 ancestor to be included in an online Roll of Honour and in the concert’s program. Share your ancestor’s story at www.birralee.org.

Voices of Birralee’s Poppies and Poems is proudly supported by the Queensland Government and is presented in association with Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
