From whispers of laneway festivals to 30-storey sky bars, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Fish Lane Festival
Yep, it’s exactly as it sounds – South Brisbane’s ever-evolving Fish Lane is holding its very own festival. On Saturday May 7, the laneway will come alive for a free all-ages event, filled with gourmet eats, pop-up bars, live music and dancing from 12:00–10:00 pm. Fish Lane residents Gauge, Maker, Julius Pizzeria, The Fox Hotel, Fish Lane Bistro and Saccharomyces Beer Cafe will be joined by Bird’s Nest Yakitori & Bar, Billykart West End, Madame Wu, Habitat and The Gunshop Cafe to dish out some delicious morsels, craft cocktails, beer and wine. Ahead of its opening in the precinct in October, Gelato Messina will also be popping up to give locals a taste of what’s to come. Look out on The Weekend Edition for more details on Fish Lane Festival closer to the event.

Bite Sip Stroll
If an afternoon sampling some of Brisbane’s best food and wine sounds like something you’d be into, keep reading. Saturday June 4 will see the launch of Bite Sip Stroll, a first-of-its-kind event offering a curated selection of food and wine from some of Brisbane’s finest. Over the course of an afternoon, attendees will stroll between Esquire, Restaurant Two, Saké and Urbane to sample a unique dish from each restaurant, sipping on wines paired by Wine Selectors for each course. The event will commence at 1:00 pm and progress over a leisurely three and a half hours. Tickets are on sale April 1.

Sazerac
Brisbane is about to get its first high-rise sky bar – perched 30 storeys up above Four Points by Sheraton, boasting sweeping views of the Story Bridge, Botanic Gardens, city skyline and beyond. Named Sazerac – an homage to the New Orleans classic cocktail – the lounge bar will celebrate the evolution of cocktails, with concoctions including the Salted Caramel Martini, Peach Mint Julep, Bloomsbury Punch and, of course, the Signature Sazerac. It will also offer a carefully curated selection of whiskies from around the world, as well as beer and wine. The food menu, developed by executive chef Ambrose Andrews, features tapas, share plates and heartier fare. Sazerac is set to open on April 14 – keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for full details soon.

Death Valley Fun Camp
Always wanted to live out your Wet Hot American Summer dreams? Well that time has finally come. Those crazy kids from Death Valley have announced Death Valley Fun Camp, a 24-hour summer camp-style festival on May 21–22 at Lake Moogerah. Pitched as a grown-ups’ school camp, the event will feature workshops with Fancy Free duo Rachel Burke and Patience Hodgson, camp activities such as kayaking and a mud course, food from Southside Tea Room and Lucky Egg, craft beer from Young Henrys, live karaoke, and a covers set from Top Shelf Wedding Band. And to make it even better? All profits from camp food and bev go to Kids Helpline. Tickets go on sale this Thursday March 31 at 9:00 am.
