Drongos: Sarah-Jayne McCreath

Sarah-Jayne McCreath’s latest works titled ‘Drongos’ will be exhibiting at Haven Espresso. McCreath will bring Beara: A world full of Drongos, Creatures and Offbeat Photos to the cafe space. Drongos is an exhibition showcasing the characters that occupy the mind of the artist. From mischievous cads to gods and magic men, each character contributes to an imagined new mythology. Inspired by existing folklore and ancient mysteries, the artist explores the possibility of creating a new idea of the unknown.
Artist bio:
Beara is the imagination playground for Sarah-Jayne McCreath, an emerging artist that lives and works in Brisbane, Australia. As a child, Sarah-Jayne would visit her neighbour for the sole purpose of using their high quality coloured pencils to reimagine the world around her. Now she is grown up and has her own high quality pencils, but still inhabits the imaginative world of the child. Her private magical world is populated by kooky black and white monsters of all shapes and sizes, ranging from figures inspired by Jim Henson puppets to more anthropomorphic deities, complete with feathered crowns and adornments. Sarah-Jayne’s work is made of mythology, uneasy creep and a love of all things weird and original.
