Overlooking a pristine stretch of Coolangatta beach, Cafe 28 Cooly has opened at The Strand and has become an instant hit with locals seeking post-surf caffeine hits and munchies.

Cafe 28 Cooly is dishing up a refreshingly unpretentious selection of fare including a Bacon and Egg Sanga and a Ham, Cheese, Tomato Melt among other humble choices. The casual eatery offers an all-day breakfast inspired menu as well as a plentiful offering of fresh juices and protein-based smoothies in a myriad of delicious flavour combinations. The brews (of the caffeine variety) are quite the opposite and offer an artisan blend by Syndicate Espresso that is roasted on order by award-winning Melbourne coffee house Clark St Roasters. The balanced variety offers a hint of nuts, cocoa, caramel and complex fruits. For a more refreshing pick-me-up, give the house-made cold brew a try. Cafe 28 Cooly is licensed too so if you fancy a brew of the other kind, you can select a cold one from the extensive list of beers on tap or bottled varieties.

Cafe 28 Cooly is part of the new Boardriders concept store developed by Quiksilver at The Strand Coolangatta and is the first of its kind in Australasia. The casual eatery and retail store opened in time for the Quiksilver and Roxy Pros and has been inundated with hoards of hungry locals since. The venue is designed as a place you can sip on a coffee and watch the waves, get a fresh new cut from the onsite Uppercut Deluxe barber, browse the latest hardware or just chill out with mates over a cold beer and some live music. There are also plans in the pipeline for sporadic surf movie nights and pop up art exhibitions so make sure you check out the Facebook page to stay in the loop of Cafe 28’s happenings. If it’s lobster and caviar you seek, this may not be your place however, if it’s amazing coffee, hearty home-style food, chilled beers and even more chilled vibes, then you’re definitely in the right place.
