Pavement Whispers: Volume 84 August 9

From whispers of laneway barbecue to new Latin eateries, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Big Roddy’s Rippin’ Rib Shack
This year is looking to be a big one for Fish Lane, with another exciting opening just announced for the South Brisbane laneway. Big Roddy’s Rippin’ Rib Shack is set to open later this year, specialising in – you guessed it – ribs! Inspired by rib shacks in Chicago, Big Roddy’s will serve up generous portions of barbecue ribs, American-style burgers, and ‘MAX Power’ sides like poutine and chilli fries and loaded baked potatoes, paired with a varied selection of beers. If you can’t wait to get a taste, you can find Big Roddy’s at the Boundary Street Markets on Friday and Saturday nights. Keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for more details soon.

Fogata Latin Fusion
James Street is soon to get a new resident, with Fogata Latin Fusion due to open at the end of August. The family-operated restaurant will serve up a delicious selection of Latin American cuisines for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and promises to have a fun-filled carnival feel. Expect to find everything from Argentinian-style steaks and Caribbean-inspired seafood to Peruvian ceviche and modern Mexican dishes. Fogata will also pour classic Latin cocktails done true to tradition, such as caipiroskas, mojitos and margaritas.

Greens & Grains
Graceville is set to welcome a new charming takeout spot in the coming weeks when Greens & Grains opens on Honour Avenue. Shona Brice has linked up with Kim Peabody (Nantucket Kitchen & Bar, NKB Express and Nickel Kitchen & Bar) for the project, which will offer a range of high-end salads, quiches and pre-packaged pulled meats (think pulled pork and brisket) in addition to a bakery component with goods supplied by New Farm’s Chouquette. Expect a range of gluten-free goods as well, with pre-orders being facilitated by Boppl.
