Move over KFC – a new bird has landed in town. NeNe Chicken specialises in crispy golden bites with a few exotic flavour combinations resulting in a cluckin’ good feed.

Few countries can top Australia’s boundless love for fried chicken but South Korea is definitely one of them. NeNe Chicken is one of South Korea’s top-flight fried chicken chains – tallying more than 1000 outlets in South Korea alone – and it expanded to Australia in 2015 with spots in Melbourne and Perth. On Saturday June 4, NeNe Chicken opened the doors to its very first Brisbane store to chants of “Ne! Ne!” (Korean for “Yes! Yes!”) and we can’t help but cheer along. The space is located on Level A of the Myer Centre in Brisbane’s CBD, welcoming curious patrons with friendly service and a simple menu of high-quality fried chicken and beer.

If you are wondering what makes this chain so popular, allow us to fill you in. NeNe’s menu features fried chicken in abundance, with nine flavour varieties at your fingertips plated up in piles of wings, tenders and drumsticks, or served in burgers or wraps. Let’s list off a few flavours – the spicy Freakin’ Hot wings will certainly rev your engine, the Green Onion Chicken is coated in savoury-sweet sauce and shredded green onions, while NeNe’s signature ‘Swicy’ flavour is known for adding a scintillating sweet and spicy spin to each cherished bite. If you want more (we know you do) a selection of salivation-inducing sides is also available. The special Bulchi chips are a must-try as they are topped with minced Bulgogi beef, sliced kimchi and sour cream. Cool down afterwards with some soft serve ice-cream, or wash it all down with a frosty beverage from Burleigh Brewing Co.
