When we noticed movement at the space formerly occupied by Tippler’s Tap, we couldn’t help but get excited at the possibilities of what was to come. After some patient waiting, we can reveal that the space is indeed being used to house a new bar and eatery in the form of M22 Bar and Cafe. A team of hospitality veterans have set about making their mark in the area, quietly opening the space to the public in the middle of February. The team behind M22 Bar and Cafe has wasted no time putting its own spin on the space, removing the bar from the back room and installing it in the front while converting the rear of the venue into a casual hangout spot with televisions and couches to relax in peace. M22 Bar and Cafe’s front portion still features the tall sliding windows, which open during the day to catch the cooling breezes.

The kitchen at M22 Bar and Cafe has put together a menu of tempting bar food that blends flavours from Asia in addition to a selection of contemporary Western snacks. Steamed pork and beef dumplings, spring rolls, takoyaki (squid balls) and Japanese chicken curries share menu space with chicken nuggets and cheesy hotdogs, plus larger plates including battered fish and chips, chicken, avocado and aioli salad, coconut panko prawn pasta and an Aussie and Asian avocado burger. Over at the bar patrons can order from a sterling selection of craft, domestic and international beer, Australian wines and classic cocktails. Soon M22 Bar and Cafe will open early to serve Blackstar coffee and breakfast bites to the yawning masses, and will then trade throughout the day and night for lunch and dinner.
