Pastries, paninis and pantry stuffers – the offering at The Bakeologists’ new location in The Gap is on point
Long-running New Farm institution The Bakeologists is a regular fixture of our best sandwich list and an underrated repository of baked goods. Good news for fans of its pilgrimage-worthy pies and salivation-inducing sangas, The Bakeologists now boasts second location out at The Gap Football Club. Serving everything from fresh loaves, pastries and savoury items to coffee and smallgoods, the new site is a relaxing spot to score some quality sustenance.
Every weekend during soccer season, The Gap Football Club comes alive with the sounds of whistles, cheers and competition. As the kids play, parents fill in along the sidelines or find a shady spot around the clubhouse from which to survey the action. But before they do, most will look for a coffee and a snack to enjoy while they cheer. For this, they’re turning to the football club’s newest resident, The Bakeologists. Known to New Farm locals for its exceptional range of sandwiches, baked goods and treats, The Bakeologists expanded out into the western suburbs earlier in March, taking over the canteen-style space formerly home to Walton’s Pantry. Overlooking the soccer fields, this Bakeologists location is a little bit larger than its New Farm sibling, with its internal shop footprint bolstered by a collection of outdoor picnic tables offering seats for folks looking to dine in. Naturally, these tables are claimed quickly on the weekends, but during the week the space is much more tranquil – the empty fields that surround the clubhouse offer a picturesque view for locals seeking a quiet spot to snack in peace.
With a little bit more room to move, the Bakeologists team is putting its full range of baked goods on display, with an eye toward offering everything the community might need from a local pit stop. The logical starting point for any first-time visitor is, of course, the sandwich cabinet, which is chock-full of some sensational sambos. Highlights include The New Yorker (a fan favourite boasting shredded corned beef, gherkin relish, mustard, mayo and Swiss cheese), the Faux Yiro (marinated kebab-style chicken, garlic, yoghurt sauce, spinach, cheese, spicy nuts and spiced barbecue sauce) and the Brissy Cheesesteak (a new menu item featuring peppered beef brisket, seeded mustard, rocket, semi-dried tomatoes, parmesan and herb-and-garlic cream cheese). If pastries are more your thing, a smorgasbord of baked goods will offer something to target your taste buds – almond croissants, cinnamon scrolls and pistachio escargot are available alongside pillowy soft doughnuts, cream-filled apple turnovers and Lamingtons. A hot cabinet houses savoury items such as pies with black Angus rump, lamb, garlic and rosemary sausage rolls, spanakopita and chorizo quiches, while the likes of gluten-free toasties, avocado on toast and brekkie muffins flesh out the sizeable offering. Cementing The Bakeologists’ reputation as a one-stop shop, the team has curated an assortment of essential pantry items and fridge fillers to take home – we’re talking breads, yoghurt and milk from Maleny dairies, sauces, and a selection of sausages, burgers, house-smoked ham and bacon from Rayner’s Meats.
The Bakeologists is now open at The Gap Football Club seven days a week. Head to the Stumble Guide for operating hours and other important details.
