Pavement Whispers: new openings to get excited about

From whispers of bite-sized meaty morsels to new drinking dens, The Weekend Edition Gold Coast is always on the search for the latest news on the Gold Coast, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Black Hops Brewing
Back in August 2014, three mates Michael McGovern, Eddie Oldfield and Dan Norris, brewed an experimental batch of Eggnog Stout and when the beer turned out better than expected, they decided to make things official and created Black Hops Brewing. Since then, the gents have been gypsy brewers around Southeast Queensland but have just announced a permanent space in Gardenia Grove in Burleigh Heads. The Black Hops brewery is set to open in March thanks to a little help from some eager beavers who have sponsored the gents via a crowd funding campaign on Pozible. The beer-loving lads met their target in the first day but you can still get on board for some sweet rewards. The campaign ends on February 10.

Balter Brewing Company
If you’ve been Insta-stalking Balter Brewing Company (like the rest of the beer-drinking populace), you’ll be well aware that the brewery is the latest venture from surf royalty Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson, Bede Durbidge and Josh Kerr. The first trial batch of amber gold was created this week and whispers are rife that we may start seeing Balter on taps around the coast in March. The soft opening is expected sometime in April.

Burleigh Brewing Co.
Meanwhile, Gold Coast institution Burleigh Brewing Co. has announced it will be moving to a shiny new space in March. The location of the new venue is being tightly held but considering its name, we’re willing to suggest it won’t be too far from its current home. Keep an eye out on Facebook or Instagram for updates on the new digs plus new opening hours and event information.

BALL BOY Meatballs
Carnivores, pescatarians, vegetarians and other, prepare your tastebuds for the opening of BALL BOY Meatballs in Mermaid Beach in coming weeks. The venture is the latest from Jesse Garlick, the mastermind behind Skull & Bones Espresso Boutique and formerly The Wiener Haus so it’s safe to say diners can expect some seriously tasty eats. Stalk BALL BOY’S cheeky Instagram and Facebook for updates.
