Soak up great vibes and even better breakfast at Mylk Well in Palm Beach

Promising the unbeatable combination of good people, great vibes and even better breakfast, it’s no surprise that Palm Beach locals have been quick to embrace Mylk Well, the light and bright new cafe that’s taken over the space formerly home to the long-standing Hachi Japanese Restaurant. The Gold Coast Highway-fronting caffeination station opened its doors late last year with the goal to fill a gap in the suburb’s offering for a top-notch morning meal. Here’s what awaits you at Mylk Well …

While foodie folk have long spruiked the energy-restoring benefits of nourishing your body with a good breakfast, our fondness for the morning meal is somewhat less scientific. In our humble opinion, a good (great) breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day. If you’re keen to get your day off to an excellent start, pull up a seat at Mylk Well in Palm Beach. The breezy new venue is the handiwork of chef Victoria Macbain and Sophia Buntine, who first crossed paths working in hospitality two years ago. Between them, they established a loyal following that became a coffee-centric hub of regulars. It was this community aspect that prompted the duo to step out on their own for their first hospitality partnership. When it came to the all-important question of where, it was a no-brainer for Sophia, who lives in Palm Beach. “We love Palm Beach, there’s such a local community feel compared to other parts of the Gold Coast,” Sophia says. The space itself is intentionally minimal with a scattering of low-set tables alongside a couple of communal high tables. The reason, Sophia says, is to let the coffee and the nosh take centre stage.

When it came down to deciding what Sophia and Victoria would do to differentiate themselves, they looked to the local area to see what was missing in the current offering. “When we looked around there were heaps of coffee shops, but not heaps of coffee shops that also do a really good quality breakfast,” Sophia says. That’s where Mylk Well comes in. The all-day breakfast menu meanders from classics such as seeded avo on sourdough through to the house-hash Benedict, which is every bit as decadent as it sounds. The most popular, however, is the chilli scrambled eggs. There’s also a clutch of toasties, bagels and burgers for folks with a hankering for something more substantial. Those in need of a pick-me-up can sip an espresso or milk-based brew using Coffee Supreme’s beans alongside filters and rotating single origins. Good days start with good breakfast, and that’s precisely what you will find at Mylk Well.
