VOU at Festival 2018

VOU at Festival 2018

From our neighbours across the Coral Sea comes an explosive Pacific experience that transports audiences to the island paradise of Fiji.

As a collective of urban Fijian artists, VOU blends the old and new, the traditional and contemporary with a unique signature style that has seen them receive international acclaim.

VOU (meaning ‘new’ in Fijian) is the most widely-toured contemporary Pacific-based dance company, having performed across the world including Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, China, USA and Canada.

Passionate about using their craft as a powerful means to create awareness of current issues of environmental sustainability, gender equality, and climate change, VOU brings a specially created site-specific response to the beautiful natural environment of the city’s coastline.

Based on a dance film work originally presented at COP21 United Nations Climate Change Conference 2015, VOU dance artists, with choreographer Navi Fong, will be transforming the piece into a live evocative beach performance that invites us to consider the world’s shaking grounds and swelling seas.

Do we sink or do we swim? This event takes place across multiple locations in Palm Beach, Broadbeach and NightQuarter.

Presented by Festival 2018 and Bleach* Festival.
