Margaret Olley: Far from a Still Life

Keen for a roadtrip in search of art? Look no further than the Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Centre, which is home to a grand collection of exceptional art created by Margaret Olley, one of Australia’s most significant painters of still life.

Its current exhibition, Margaret Olley: Far from a Still Life, tells the story of Olley’s incredible life and enduring career through her greatest legacy – her art. Presented exclusively at the Tweed Regional Gallery, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Margaret Olley’s birthday, the exhibition is drawn entirely from the Tweed Regional Gallery collection.

A celebration of both art and life, Far from a Still Life includes artwork from as early as Olley’s time at high school in Brisbane through to the final decade of her life, as well as portraits of Olley and contemporary responses to the re-creation of her famous Duxford Street home studio. The exhibition takes its title from Meg Stewart’s biography Margaret Olley: Far from a Still Life with kind permission from the author and the Margaret Olley Art Trust.

The gallery is presenting three exclusive exhibitions in the Margaret Olley Art Centre this year, with Margaret Olley: Far from a still life running until Sunday October 8. Each exhibition is complemented by a dynamic program of events including masterclass painting workshops for adults, free school-holiday workshops for kids and the annual community picnic and artist paint out for the whole family.
