The Bethnal, an event space and barrel room by the Range Brewing team, is now pouring in Newstead

The crafty crew behind one of Brisbane’s most foward-thinking frothmakers, Range Brewing are adding yet another venue to their hospitality portfolio, in the form of a daring, yet versatile inner-city event space. Introducing The Bethnal, a contemporary barrel room occupying the neighbouring space to Range’s Newstead taproom and a charming tip of the hat to the humble beginnings of owners Mat McIver and Gerard Martin. The Bethnal is now pouring, so take a look inside …

Following their mantra of ‘forever exploring, forever evolving’, since their arrival onto Brisbane’s beer scene in early 2018 the Range Brewing team has continued to push beer-boundaries, including opening a satellite taproom in the Melbourne suburb of Abbotsford in the midst of the pandemic, launching a hugely successful beer festival and introducing its own onsite slice-slinging eatery. More recently the beer makers announced the upcoming arrival of Australiana-inspired bar Patio by Range in Rosalie, set to open its doors in early June. Now, Range Brewing has welcomed its second venue for the year, The Bethnal, which is an ode to the very start of Matt and Gerard’s brewing adventure.

A charming British pub located in Bethnal Green in the UK is where Range Brewing’s journey started. It is here where Matt and Gerard planned from start to finish their vision for the brewery and the changes they wanted to make in the Australian beer industry. The Bethnal, located right next door to Range Brewing’s HQ, is the first designated event space for the group and doubles as a working barrel room. “For the last five plus years we’ve really incorporated Range Brewing’s motto- forever exploring, forever evolving into our everyday life,” says Gerard. “We’ve explored countless venues, events and countries, and now we’re at the point where we’re finally ready to evolve these experiences into a brand-new venue under our group.”

Hosting 120 people cocktail-style and 80 sitting down, the multifaceted venue allows a space for events that “prioritise high-quality design, drinks and service.” Stepping foot into The Bethnal you are immediately greeted by a wall of traditional oak barrels, which also doubles as a working experiment for Range Brewing’s ever-evolving, experimental wild-fermented beers and barrel-aged stouts, polished concrete floors, an exposed ceiling and beautifully curved motifs. Creating an industrial setting that is perfectly balanced with a natural warmth, for a moody and dramatic atmosphere. Fancy a wedding at a brewery? The Bethnal is where you can tie the knot and celebrate afterwards, with the one-of-a-kind space featuring a striking custom-built bar housing six taps of Range brews and a spectacular selection of red and white wines from LATTA Vino in Victoria’s Coghills Creek.

The Bethnal is now open. Head to the Stumble Guide for more details and contact information.
