From news of West Village’s new restaurant celebrating Aussie beers and Asian eats to a French-inspired bakery for Brisbane’s bayside, The Weekend Edition is always on the search for the latest food news in Brisbane, dedicated to ensuring its readers are in the know. When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Goodtime
Aussie beers, authentic Asian street food, fond memories and new experiences will be celebrated at Goodtime, a new restaurant set to open at West Village this December. Goodtime is the latest venue from familiar faces Andrew Yu and Beverley Teo, the owners and operators behind glamorous inner-city yum cha restaurant Longtime Dining at Queens Plaza. Drawing inspiration from laid-back suburban soirees (you know the ones – cold beers enjoyed over serves of takeaway from the local Chinese restaurant), Goodtime is all about recreating that essence of leisurely simplicity through good food, great drinks and friendly service. The 100-seater venue (designed by Clui Design) is currently taking shape in the space previously home to Beirut Bazaar on the fringe of West Village’s The Common (just next to Cheeky Poké Bar), and will boast a casual alfresco patio area out front, which leads into a chic interior outfitted with banquettes, bar seating and plenty of tables for intimate pairings and small groups. Goodtime’s menu of aromatic pan-Asian eats will include yum cha bites and Instagram-worthy serves of Flying Noodles, while the bar will be dispensing ice-cold craft beers from a number of Queensland breweries. Goodtime is targeting a mid-December opening date – stay tuned for an up-close look inside next month.

Banette Bayside
The hits keep coming for Wynnum, which has been enjoying a boom in brand-new food and drink concepts. This month, bayside locals will have their carb cravings satisfied with the arrival of Banette – a French-inspired bakery and cafe opening soon in the heart of Wynnum. Taking over the site previously home to The Coffee Club on Bay Terrace, Banette Bayside will be larger than its sibling locations in Rosalie and West End. With that in mind, the team will have room to offer more than just its jaw-dropping array of baked goods (which includes breads, croissants, cruffins, kouign amanns, croque monsieurs, eclairs, macarons and gluten-free flans). Guests will be able to sit down and enjoy a tight menu of breakfast items (think avocado toast and brekkie sandwiches with a buttery croissant as a bun) as well as top-notch coffee from Noosa-based first specialty roaster Clandestino. Banette Bayside is expected to open in the next week or so. Be sure to keep an eye on The Weekend Edition for more info.

Establishment 203
Even though the holiday season is rapidly approaching, Brisbane’s dining scene still has a number of big-name openings locked in for the coming weeks. Perhaps one of the most anticipated newcomers is Establishment 203, Stanbroke’s high-end Italian-inspired steak restaurant currently taking shape in Fortitude Valley. In good news for folks eager to score a seat at the Ben O’Donoghue-helmed eatery, bookings at Establishment 203 are now live! Tables are available for late-November and early-December sittings, but be quick – they’re likely to get snapped up quickly. And if you haven’t already, be sure to read our preview piece on Establishment 203 before popping in.

Perentie Brewing Co.
Don’t put the calendar away just yet! Another big-time unveiling has been set – this time in December. The crew behind lifestyle and entertainment hub Distillery Road Market in Eagleby will soon lift the cloche on its anticipated bespoke $6-million craft brewery Perentie Brewing Co. The team has announced that Perentie will officially open its doors to the public on Saturday December 16, showing off a suite of amenities including its brewery set-up (which boasts a million-litre output capacity), a spacious beer garden overlooking the Albert River and industrial-inspired taproom. The brewery, which is focusing on sessionable lager-style beers made using traditional German brewing techniques, is giving punters a taste of what’s to come with a clutch of Perentie beers now available at all DRM venues in the lead up to its official launch. Right now, froth lovers can get a taste of Perentie’s light and refreshing Summer Dry, the clean and hoppy Pure Crisp, and the rich and complex Komodo Black exclusively at DRM outlets, including Sugar Creek Smokehouse and Posadas Cantina. Looking beyond Perentie’s launch, the DRM team is also making progress on The F.E.D (The Food and Entertainment District), a purpose-built indoor-outdoor entertainment facility and casual-dining precinct, which will house a number of container-style street-food outlets, as well as a live-music venue with a capacity of 2000. Keep your eyes peeled for a gander at Perentie Brewing Co. and The F.E.D in the coming months.
