When we put our ears to the pavement this week, this is what we found out …

Attimi by Dario Manca
Last month, news broke that dearly beloved Paddington restaurant NOTA was closing to the public on Saturday August 3. While locals were deeply saddened by the news, the blow was softened by the announcement that the venue’s Given Terrace home would be reborn as another culinary concept soon after. In September, heralded chef Dario Manca will open Attimi by Dario Manca – a 28-seat experimental fine diner that will aim to give guests a truly bespoke dining experience. With Attimi, Dario (previously executive chef of Rosmarino) will apply his unique culinary lens to contemporary Italian cuisine and Michelin-starred European-style dining. On weekends, Attimi will offer two kinds of set degustation menu – one eight-course offering taking guests on a ‘quick Italian tour’, and a larger 12-course degustation described as a sensory exploration of Italy’s diverse regions. “It’s very important to me that Brisbane understands we are looking at an experimental way of dining, having fun and enjoying blending tradition with playful innovation,” says Dario of Attimi’s approach. “I want people to feel like anything is possible when it comes to food when they dine at Attimi, and for guests to enjoy a moment of magic and surprise – and that’s why I called my restaurant Attimi, which means ‘moment’ in Italian.” From Tuesday to Thursday, diners will be able to pop in for a more casual a la carte experience, with footpath dining available on a walk-in basis for snacks. On the drinks front, expect Attimi to offer a region-spanning wine list encompassing skin-contact wines across plenty of classic varietals, as well as a clutch of rare beers. Dario will look to retain much of the venue’s existing elements, but a quick refit will see the creation of a smaller, more intimate bar area. Cloudland Garden Restaurant
One of Fortitude Valley’s cherished party hubs has just unveiled a fully fledged 200-seat restaurant addition, where fire-licked fare is taking centre stage. Cloudland’s tropical-inspired ground-floor space has been transformed into Cloudland Garden Restaurant, a lush dining destination boasting a share-style menu with a Mediterranean lean. While much of Cloudland’s existing interior design and artwork remains, the space has been revitalised with new furnishings, including bespoke hardwood tables with solid-marble insets, cushioned seating, wrought-iron pods and intimate booths. The eatery is being overseen by newly appointed head chef Alec Kapitz who, alongside executive chef Andrew Musk, has built a mouth-watering menu out of premium produce and protein – all given a smoky aroma via an Argentinian-style parrilla charcoal grill. Cloudland Garden Restaurant’s offering includes stand-out options like Margra lamb with agrodolce and red elk, Urban Valley lion’s mane mushroom with Jerusalem artichoke and beurre noisette, wood-fired Fremantle octopus served with smoked labneh, chickpeas, chilli and fresh lime, and pan-seared scallops with parsnip, morcilla, chicken jus gras and capers. Beyond the phenomenal fare, Cloudland Garden Restaurant also boasts a new curated wine list, as well as a flavour-packed cocktail menu led by the Agave Heat Wave – a punchy number boasting tequila and mezcal with lime, jalapeno, coconut water and a spicy Tajín rim. Cloudland Garden Restaurant is now open for reservations – get all the details over in the Stumble Guide.

Sunnyside Sandwiches x Fancy Hank’s
We love a tasty team up. One of our favourite sambo slingers Sunny Side Sandwiches is collaborating with Melbourne-born barbecue joint and condiment crew Fancy Hank’s on a limited-edition sandwich to celebrate the launch of Fancy Hank’s new line of mayonnaises. On Saturday July 13, Sunny Side’s Windsor and Paddington shops will be serving an extra-special curried-egg sandwich made using Fancy Hank’s chicken salt mayo. What’s more, the Sunny Side team will be giving away a full-size jar of the fancy mayo (made with free-range egg yolk and no added colours or flavours) to the first 100 people to purchase one of the sandwiches on the day.

Friday Lunch at ESSA
If you’re keen to embrace the TGIF feeling with a long lunch, ESSA’s newly launched Friday lunch menu is just the ticket. The progressive Fortitude Valley restaurant is dishing up a deluxe offering available for $68 per person, with the menu including the likes of kangaroo tartare with raw witlof and fried wakame, squid ink and black truffle salami, raw cobia with green capsicum and yuzu dressing, and your choice of either hand-rolled pici pasta with an aromatic caramelised-scallop sauce or organic pork collar with soft herbs and a bayleaf and mustard sauce. As always, some delicious add-ons are also available – think caviar bumps and frozen vodka, salt-beef sangas with black-garlic mustard and truffle mayo, and crab crumpets. Stock Exchange Hotel
Beloved inner-city pub the Stock Exchange Hotel has announced a new hire, with the venue’s ownership group Helliwell Hospitality appointing fifth-generation publican Nick ‘Gorko’ Gregorski as a managing director and consultant. Nick, known to many Brisbane pub patrons as the former owner and operator of The Alliance in Spring Hill and the Port Office Hotel in The City, has joined the team to help oversee some exciting changes. The team has plans for a major overhaul of its downstairs space, with intentions to turn it into an elevated restaurant and dining experience – new additions that will no doubt help cement the long-running pub as a go-to for inner-city denizens. “We have some fantastic renovations and changes planned that I believe will elevate Stockies to new heights,” said Nick in a statement. “It’s an exciting time for everyone involved.” Stay tuned for more info on Stock Exchange Hotel’s continued evolution.

Brisbane’s dining scene received another devastating blow over the weekend with news that long-running French-inspired fine diner Montrachet was going into administration after more than 20 years of operation. Mark Holland, Jamie Harris and Anthony Connelly of restructuring firm McGrath Nicol have been appointed to oversee the administration of Shannon and Clare Kellam’s Cuisinier Australis Pty Ltd trading as Montrachet. The news arrives months after the Kellam’s other business – BCN Events Group – entered liquidation, forcing the immediate closure of MICA Brasserie, Lumiere Culinary Studio, King Street Bakery and The Kneadery. Montrachet is expected to continue trading for now, with parties interested in acquiring the business encouraged to reach out.

Montrachet’s potential shuttering is the latest in a string of noteworthy closures taking place across Brisbane. Venues like Alba Bar & Deli in The City, Petrie Terrace bar Brewski, West End brewery The Brew Baron Beer Co., Black Hops Brewing in East Brisbane, Albion distillery and cocktail bar Granddad Jack’s, and bayside cafe Manly Kitchen have all ceased operations in recent weeks or announced upcoming closures.
