Grow mushrooms from coffee waste
The leftover grounds from your daily morning cup may currently be going straight into the bin, but they could be going into your garden instead. Not only are coffee grounds excellent for layering through your garden soil, but they also make a great substrate for growing mushrooms. In Dublin, some eco-minded folk put on their thinking hats and founded Mushroom City – mixing coffee grounds with mushroom spawn to create growing kits for home gardeners. The team collects the grounds from partner cafes around the city via its Mushroom City cargo bike, then mixes the coffee with Oyster spawn and packages it into mini farms ready for delivery to newfound green thumbs.
