Gluten-free Paleo Cafe pops up in Bulimba

Those whose bellies eschew gluten, dairy and sugar can find plenty of tempting sustenance at the new Paleo Cafe in Bulimba.

Tucked into the little health hub that encompasses Coco Bliss and Ooh Mami on the corner of Riddell and Oxford Streets in Bulimba, Brisbane’s newest Paleo Cafe is nourishing local folk with wholesome nosh. Tapping into the growing demand for dairy-, sugar- and gluten-free grub, this is Paleo Cafe’s third franchise in Brisbane, with Bulimba joining sibling venues in Paddington and Brisbane City. Combining retail store with health-food cafe, the new locale offers all manner of pantry-bound edibles, from nut butters and coconut oil to gluten-free pizza bases and bags of the cafe’s own granola and trail mix. Supplements and superfoods all find a place on the Paleo Cafe shelves, as do popular products from the KORA Organics skincare range and special treats like the Food To Nourish 100% raw and organic chocolate hazelnut spread. A large selection of paleo and health books are also available for guests to purchase or simply flick through while waiting for their meal.

The cafe is currently open for breakfast and lunch seven days, while the dinner menu is in the final stages of tweaking and should be up and running in the coming weeks. Guests can start their day with double-smoked or nitrate-free bacon and free-range eggs on gluten-free toast, or the famous paleo pancakes served with sliced banana, whipped coconut cream and your choice of mixed berry compote or lemon curd. Lunch sees a tender grass-fed lamb patty resting on a toasted linseed bun with all the trimmings, seared Tasmanian salmon on sweet potato and pumpkin puree, or a chicken and roast vegetable stack drizzled with creamy mustard sauce. A range of guilt-free treats line the cabinet, including the likes of a particularly tempting chocolate espresso cake with chilli almond praline and ganache, or choose from the healthy takeaway snacks sitting atop the counter. Liquid sustenance comes in the form of fresh juices, smoothies and Elixir Coffee. Time-pressed customers who would rather grab and go can take their pick from the fridge for a selection of ready-made meals including beef cheeks with sweet potato mash and greens, shepherd’s pie or roast pumpkin soup. Keep an eye on the cafe’s Facebook page for announcements on the dinner service due to begin in September.
