Milk Espresso Bar and Tea House opens in Bowen Hills

About a year ago, the snack bar that had operated on Brookes Street in Bowen Hills closed its doors after a 50 years of operation. Now the front shop space and attached house behind has been transformed.

Milk Espresso Bar and Tea House is the creation of Luke Margaritis, a familiar face to those who frequent the Di Bella coffee stall at the West End Markets each Saturday. Luke has completely refitted the space by hand, with every furnishing either recycled or found. Jute coffee bags have been upcycled to wall linings, cushions and seat covers, giving the space a bohemian, well-loved vibe.

Patrons can order from the front window, before taking a seat on the street outside or in the front room. Soon the back part of the house will also be complete, a space dedicated to the tea houses of yesteryear, with both a 1930s and 1970s room tucked amongst the menagerie of jute.

Serving Di Bella’s Felici blend, Milk Espresso Bar and Tea House has soy, oat milk and Zymil on hand for the lactose-intolerant coffee drinker, with muffins, banana bread and chunky fruit loaf to complement at breakfast time. Lunch sees turkish bread come filled with chargrilled roast vegetables or roast beef, tomato, cheese, onion and dijon mustard, with salads of pumpkin and spinach, potato, aioli and mustard or chicken, chorizo and penne joining the list.
