Louis & Sons Delicatessen opens in Stones Corner

Louis & Sons Delicatessen is on a mission to revive the age-old institution of deli dining and inject new energy into the Stones Corner precinct.

Louis & Sons Delicatessen is turning back the clock and reawakening the tradition of yesteryear, when families would pop into their local deli for pantry goods, a chinwag with the neighbours and a bite to eat. The family behind the new venture – Louis Petinakis, his sons Dimitris and Nik, and daughter-in-law Anna Macklin – have transformed a derelict building on Logan Road into an upmarket deli and cafe. Gourmet products have been carefully sourced from Brisbane’s backyard and food-making regions around the world, establishing a broad range of high-end provisions.

Turophiles are unlikely to make it past the cheese cabinet, which boasts a rotating selection of wheels and wedges such as French Graindorge Livarot soft washed rind, fromager d’affinois with truffles and Victorian Milawa white. The pantry shelves cover everything from New Zealand’s J.Friend and Co. artisan honey and Sydney’s Sonoma natural muesli to Swedish Falksalt sea salt flakes and American Bone Suckin’ habanero sauce.

For those who are keen to dine in, a range of pre-prepared lunch items and sweets awaits. Think blue cheese, avocado and semi-dried tomato bagels, tempting Spanish ham, pesto, tomato and brie sandwiches, and indulgent cannoli from Clayfield’s Dolci Sapori. Aromas coffee is available to enjoy in-store by the cup or to take away by the bag. There’s even a kiddie corner for pint-sized customers, with free babycinos on offer, as well as changing tables in the restrooms and accreditation from the Australian Breastfeeding Association. While the deli is currently trading daytime only, Louis and his family have grand plans to renovate the backyard and expand into a boutique bar, offering quirky ‘high cheese’ experiences.
