Brisbane's best muffins

Greet the morn with Brisbane’s best muffins

For baked-goods enthusiasts, the muffin isn’t just a wonderful excuse to tuck in to a sweet breakfast. Rather, the fluffy puff of doughy goodness is a deliciously easy way to begin the day – especially when it is made by someone else. To help you navigate the impressive breadth of muffins available locally, The Weekend Edition has compiled a list of what may be Brisbane’s best muffin offerings.

Saabi on Manson is a quaint cafe comfily settled amongst the dappled light of suburban Hendra. A hound-friendly location, Saabi offers an area for your pooch to relax outdoors while you tuck into a super-sized breakfast muffin. A generous proportion of oats, cranberries and peach goodness, these muffins are baked until the top is crisp and the middle is fluffy and delicious.

Petrie Terrace locals can enjoy the offerings of nearby Cabiria in The Barracks. The bar may be renowned for its dimly lit interiors and impressive selection of wines to choose from after hours, but during the day the diminutive space serves up creative combinations of muffins (both sweet and savoury) alongside its steaming mugs of coffee. Past flavour combinations have included potato, pea, cheese and garlic, as well as pineapple and passionfruit.

Spring Hill locale Sisco is another eatery with a penchant for whipping up frightfully delicious baked goods. Sitting happily alongside the team’s other baked creations, fruity breakfast muffins are a staple of the cafe. Flavours include nectarine, coconut and almond, but these tend to sell out early, so be prepared to get in early to nab one of the cafe’s delightfully light creations.

Other notable muffin connoisseurs in the Brisbane region include the brightly coloured Flamingo Cafe, which whips up fruity concoctions of muffins each morning. Pearl Cafe  also serves up a smorgasbord of creative muffin concepts, alongside its multitude of other cakes and goodies. For those after a takeaway indulgence, there is also always the berry-flavoured bites crafted by the team at Jocelyn’s Provisions.
